Introduction to Game Design // DESIGN 131

Charley Miller, Game Designer

Saturday, January 28th from 1:00 - 5:00 pm

Games aren’t just for the kids anymore. Great games have a unique ability to captivate and engage. Join us to learn and, best of all, have a lot of fun.

This workshop will cover the foundations of game design and give attendees the chance to jump into the role of game designer. Over the course of four hours, we will examine the core elements and design process of creating games while giving every participant the chance to get their hands dirty by designing a basic gaming experience. Attendees will leave with the basic knowledge of designing a game from start to finish, from balancing mechanics to writing design documents. There are no prerequisites to attend; simply bring paper, a pen, your enthusiasm and creativity.

Charley Miller is a game designer and entrepreneur based in NYC. He's led the design on games that range from iPhone 3D experiences, to table games, to urban games, to games for professional training... including projects for clients like Hasbro and New York City Office of Emergency Management. He's currently working on a location-based, social game for smart phones and a presidential election game for tablets. His urban games have been featured in the NY Times and he was recently commissioned by the NYU Game Center for their No Quarter Exhibition.
